CONSPIRACIES THROUGH TIME
A human-led walkthrough of the mysteries of time
Role: Researcher, Video Editor, Projection Mapper
Team: Zofia Pejas
Tools: Adobe After Effects
Deliverables: Demo Video, Circular Clock Display, Turntable of artifacts
Specs: 4 artifacts, 3x3 ft Circular Clock, and a 1920x1080 4K 1:50 min. video
OVERVIEW
In the vast passage of time, there has been certain mysteries and hysteria around the perception of time. From these moments emerge four artifacts: the Julian calendar, the 1900s daylight savings clock, the Maya long count calendar, and the 2000s Y2k digital clock. Each one carries a conspiracy around how time was manipulated and could signify catastrophic change if they were to come true.
CONCEPT
Each person can explore the possibilities of a time conspiracy in an immersive auditory and video experience.
The audience has full autonomy of the experience; by utilizing the turntable mechanism, they can pick the artifact’s conspiracy they are most curious about. This cyclical effect mimics the nature of time, allowing the interaction to be intuitive and meaningful.
LEADING FACTOR
Accessibility is a huge part of what makes an experience meaningful. Like a lower table with lots of space around it for wheelchair users, or a more tactile approach to interacting, which would engage hands-on learners.
RESEARCH
The research for this concept was a long process, taking a lot of pivots and reflection to refine it into a topic that is both engaging and produces interesting artifacts. Simultaneously, extensive research on accessibility and UX principles through various case studies led to an experience that is considerate of all.
PROCESSFrom concept research to sketching and body storming, early user feedback was key to a final direction that was simple yet bold, reminiscent of a topic that can be suspenseful. The black and white against the bright red drew attention, creating visual interest between
the narration and video projection on the modernist-inspired clock display.
Projection Progress ComparisonsKEY TAKEAWAYSThe final product was the true test through time. After various set rearrangements and concept alignments, the final product was an experience that told a complete and compelling story while leaving behind a lot of lessons on UX principles and the possibilities of digital enhancement to a physical space to round out a story.
